Ivan Hollins interception return

The Chops' Ivan Hollins returns an interception 103 yards during a game against the Gorillas on Sunday at Youth Sports Inc.

This is my nephew, Lil Ivan, future football star. He plays youth football in Kansas and is one of the smallest guys on his team, but definitely the TOUGHEST. Go IVAN, you make your Uncle G proud.

PARAQUAD/COLLEGE FOR LIVING

-I'm doing what I think I was put on this earth to do. And I'm really grateful to have something that I'm passionate about and that I think is profoundly important.

Marian Wright Edelman:

Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.

Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value.

Albert Einstein:

I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.

Albert Schweitzer:

He who wishes to secure the good of others, has already secured his own.

Confucius:

You're not obligated to win. You're obligated to keep trying to do the best you can every day.

We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

FORGIVENESS

He who cannot forgive others destroys the bridge over which he himself must pass over

When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive.

To hate another is to hate yourself.

Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.

The person who pursues revenge should dig two graves.
Never, ever, engage in envy or hatred-- it is a mental cancer that will only destroy oneself.

House of Alpha

GOODWILL is the monarch of this house. Men, unacquainted, enter, shake hands, exchange greetings, and depart friends. Cordiality exists among all who abide within.

I am the eminent expression of friendship. Character and temperament change under my dominant power. Lives once touched by me become tuned, and are thereafter, amiable, kindly, fraternal.

I inspire the musician to play noble sentiments, and assist the chemist to convert ungenerous personalities into individuals of great worth. I destroy all ignoble impulses. I constantly invoke principles which make for common brotherhood, and the echo resounds in all communities, and princely men are thereby recognized. Education, health, music, encouragement, sympathy, laughter—all these are species of interest given on self-invested capital.

Tired moments find me a delightful treat, hours of sorrow, a shrine of understanding—at all times I am faithful to the creed of companionship.

To a few, I am the castle of dreams—ambitious, successful, hopeful dreams. To many, I am the poetic palace where human feeling is rhymed to celestial motives; to the great majority, I am the treasury of good fellowship.

In fact, I am the college of friendship; the university of brotherly love; the school for the better making of men.

I AM ALPHA PHI ALPHA!

First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All

Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.

For Bighead & Shorty:

Little quotes and encouragements to live by:

I carry you in my heart always. Know that I have loved you both from our day one. I can't be more thankful for the blessing God gave me by putting you to in my life. Always remember to: Serve God, serve others & take yourself out of the equations. To whom much is given, much is also required. Everything to you & your sister will have that statement somewhere. If you don't get what you want, want what you get. Problems are nothing but, solutions that are masked in works of code. It is not what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable. I think of a responsible person as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with her freedom. Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself.

Remember 3R's:

Respect yourself;

Respect others;

Be Responsible for your actions.

Nothing is ever lost by courtesy. It is the cheapest of pleasures, costs nothing, and conveys much.

How will you live your life when nobody's watching? Where after all does morality begin?

In small places, close to home so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world.

Unless morals are taught in the home and have meaning there they will have little meaning anywhere.

Always remember; No man can be called friendless when he has God as his companion. No legacy is as rich as honesty. Ninety-nine percent of all failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses. Failure or victory is conceived in our thinking first then birthed in our lives. Within every obstacle man endures, there is always a positive, but sometimes it's hidden behind the pain. Don't ever let the pain control you. Neither praise nor blame moves a wise man. An attitude is a way of life formed by negative or positive decisions made in the midst of circumstances we are experiencing or have experienced.

— Hebrews 4:12. When you face a tough situation, what is your first response? For many of us, we try to handle the problem ourselves and end up getting into a tangled mess. We often wait until our circumstance has gotten out of control before we decide to seek God for help. Why wait? Why keep enduring unnecessary setbacks and frustration? Seek God immediately and avoid the "tangled threads”. The next time a problem comes your way, I encourage you to follow the great advice in; Proverbs 3:5-6:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Fear not for the future, weep not for the past. Never give up on yourself because God never gives up on you. The deepest definition of youth is life as yet untouched by tragedy. Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality.

Don't let little disputes damage great relationships. Never laugh at anyone’s DREAMS, sometimes dreams are all they have. Excuses are dangerous because they can block true repentance. A person that is successful has simply formed the habit of doing things that unsuccessful people will not do.

Find a man who if you bump into him on the sidewalk, he will apologize and doesn’t need to start a fight. If you pass him on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a man or lady. He will trust strangers and is courtly to his mother and other women. A man will hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection. A man will get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children. A man will have moral courage. They seldom brag unless it's about their wife or children. And REMEMBER BOYS shack up. MEN build homes. Marry A MAN. Last but not least, remember I Love my GIRLS.

My parents are the truest friends I have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon me; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; they counsel me until a peace returns to my heart.

They were my first coaches, cheerleaders & the people I would most like to emulate. They are GREAT people who see that spiritual is stronger than material force, that thoughts rule the world. They have taught me about both VISION and COMMITMENT. They have taught me that in the face of adversity to adjust, stand strong and remain unshaken. My siblings are the people that I’m most proud of besides my girls. Both of them are such incredible people. I spent my whole life being scared & running, but they have tackled life, took it head on and stumped out the obstacles. My brother is such a great Dad, husband, son & brother, and most of all, such a gift from God. I brag about my brother all the time, his networking & people skills are incredible. He can do anything, doesn't matter what, he had just conquered it. My sister is incredible. She’s the baby, one day she’ll be a mother & wife, and already is a blessing from God. I still have pictures of her that were in the paper, crossing that finish line. Finishing first & breaking records as she has done all along in every aspect of her life. My wish for all of you is to be happy & blessed, and know even though I didn't say it a lot, I really LOVE you guys and I'll always be here if you ever need me.

I guess I better put this on since I always talk to people about Keeping your head;

The Light of Optimism

"Sometimes we learn the hard way that it doesn't pay to get discouraged. Positive thinking is an intellectual choice, and by keeping our eyes focused on the light of optimism, we can restore faith in ourselves and stay clear of the shadows."

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,

And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;

If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with triumph and disaster

And treat those two imposters just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,

And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 2Corinthians 4:8

I'm still trying to apply this to my life. God Bless You All.

"You can't be treated equal if you want to be treated special"

The Courage of Integrity

"The highest courage is to dare to be yourself in the face of adversity. Choosing right over wrong, ethics over convenience, and truth over popularity…these are the choices that measure your life. Travel the path of integrity without looking back, for there is never a wrong time to do the right thing."

“A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him."

My buddy Jeff came by today and showed me how to do this. I actually learned how to used the BLOG today. I've posted my POST in my comments, but in the process of moving them today I deleted several, sooooo I'll start over. Look out!!

This happened in 4/2006
Hey all,
Joy is not in things, but the right things can bring u joy.(whatever!!!)That's what my shorties would say. I'm so glad it's Springtime. I've coached a group of young ladies since kindergarten and (now they are 7 & 8th grade girls) they won their second championship,(Back to Back baby). It was probaly the best game (half)I've seen them play. At halftime we were down 25-8, couldn't hit the ocean w/a rock and I gave one of my motivational speeches that I'm famous for(blah blah blah BLAH!!!, not get out there and play your game). Third quarter started and they were a different team. My little shorty(MB) started it with a jumper from the corner, the team added a few steals and layups and at the end of the third we were only down by 1. A parent describe it best,"the first quarter was like a dark tunnel,were you could only see a flicker of light, and then you could hear a rumbling and the light got brighter,the freight train was coming".And that's what it was like a freight train. Once they got to rollin it was no stopping them. They ended up winning 41-33. That's right they only allowed 3pts in the third and 5pts in the 4th. It was incredible. And not to leave out my soccer team,they are incredible too. They have played most of their seasons w/9 or 10 players, always clawing and fighting to the bitter end. They were District Champs for 3 out of the 4yrs they were eligible, making it to the final game twice(coached this group since K also). I've been blessed to have some talented kids, with good hearts, that needed just a little guidance,tribute to the good parenting(THANKS PARENTS,I know you'll don't hear that enough). None of this would have been possible, without the MAN upstairs (GOD) & my bud (VINCE),who has been by my side thru the good and bad. Thanks man! I'm very proud of them as a coach and parent, to see that they didn't quit, makes me know they were listening all these years. Hopefully they learned some lessons about life thru sports and that they are fearful of nothing, not even failure, because there are lesson in defeat also. We leave each other as champions, regardless of the results of our athletic careers. It ends so bitter sweetly. I'll miss them all and hope they become the incredible young ladies I know they all can become. But as in all things this to has passed, our time though fleeting,leaves an impact. Hopefully we met some of your expectations, because you exceeded mine. Thanks for the memories, the experience and the RIDE. It's been real.
